VIDEO TRAINING OVERVIEW:
Four quick tips by SkillTraxTV’s Coach Pete Meadows on how to protect your baseball or softball player’s arm by implementing four key aspects of mechanics.
As early as possible in your player’s career, help distinguish their ARM SLOT.
Then practicing BALANCE is vital for throwing, hitting and pitching (for baseball). Coach give a great drill here to obtain it. Poor balance rushes your landing foot down before you can reach your ARM SLOT.
Proper DIRECTION is key and takes intentional work to be sure the payer steps with the front side going at the target. Lead arm or unintentional opening of the front foot drops the arm slot and effectively creates control.
To insure proper hip action all the way through the throwing action, ALWAYS have the player EXAGGERATED the follow through as OFTEN as possible. As Coach mentions, DO NOT DRAG the back foot through the process (there are many drills found online for this too) , so visually be sure the throwing side foot ALWAYS FINISHES out in front of the glove side foot.
The earlier you begin these four essentials with your player, the sooner you’ll begin ELIMINATING the wear and tear on the two key joint area (elbow and shoulder).
The chance of your player ever having “Little League Elbow” will be significantly reduced. Older players will greatly reduce stress and pain, and in fact increase endurance by implementing these four simple steps.
